Mapinfo Workspace and Tab File Preview

    Hi,
I am looking for a way of previewing my workspaces and tab files without opening them up.
Other GIS software packages have the ability to do so.
I am not sure, but I thought at some point there was a tool available to do so with MapInfo.

    Any help would be appreciated
    Many thanks

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

As much as I understand, for a preview you should have the map or the workspace  opened. The purpose of a preview is to see the edits made on the map before they can be  saved.

Not sure what are you looking to achieve. You can see the list of recently opened files in the Welcome window and the Open dialog in MapInfo Pro as well, if that helps.

    Hi Shweta,
    Thank you for your response.
Not quite what I was looking for.
In the Esri they have an window explorer type tool which you can use to explore folder structures that store workspaces, shape files etc. They have something similar in QGIS.
With this tool you can quickly preview these files and workspaces, determine whether you want to open them and at the same time delete them if you want to.  No need to go through the process of opening up the workspace or tab file.
I thought there was a tool in Mapinfo that did the same?

In the Open dialog, if you choose "MapInfo Places" at the bottom left hand corner , you can choose the Table directory, Remote Table directory and Workspace Directory. Here you will then get the list of Tables and workspaces you can see.

I guess this is what you are looking for.

Maybe have the Save > Workspace function also create a thumbnail of one of the maps in the workspace?

I really like this idea, Paul.
Can I ask you to add it to our Ideas Portal so that it is captured?

You can access the Ideas Portal via the Pitney Bowes sites menu in the menubar above.

One idea is to capture a thumbnail of the front-most map window or the entire screen perhaps, as @Steve Wallace mentions. And maybe include some details/description on the workspace too.

    Thanks
