Selecting objects creates queries

    Hi,

I've recently upgraded to Mapinfo2019.1 and noticed everytime I click on a layer/table it creates a new query instead of "Selection" .

So i'm ending up with huge numbers of queries. how do I change this back to showing just "Selection" when i click single/multiple objects instead of making a new query every time?

    Thanks,

    Hi Rajiv

Typically, MapInfo Pro renames the Selection to QueryN when you start using the selection, for example if you show it in a browser or similar.

I just tried it in my MapInfo Pro and I'm able to select one record at a time and stick to the Selection only. It's not being renamed to QueryN for every new feature I add to the selection using the Selector in the map window.

Do you have any tools running that might react to the change in the selection? Are you clicking o the features in the map window one at a time to select them?

    Thanks for the reply Peter,

My work I.T. support figured it out, as you said as well, it was a tool that called 'Mask' that was creating the problem.

Unloading the tool fixes the issue.

Thanks for raising this Rajiv. I had the same problem and it has been resolved by removing the mask tool. I am having another problem which  may have a similar cause. I am using Mapinfo 19.1. None of my right click menu options work on tables  displayed in the Explorer window. I have to go to the ribbon bar to do anything- even to delete the table
. The right click action symbols look active (i.e. not greyed out). Any suggestions.

    Hi Jodi

When I right-click on a table in the Table list, I still get the context menu.
And I can also, for example, browse the table in a browser window via the context menu

Do you not see the context menu when you right-click on a table, or does nothing happen when you click on one of the items in the context menu?

    Hi Peter,

I can see the menu but nothing happens when I click on it. I have tried it on an older version of Mapinfo that I have installed and the context menu works properly on that so I know that there is something wrong. I actually noticed it after I had been away on holiday back in January and had a temp working my system so I don't know what they might have done but it has never worked since. I have just installed the new 19.1 but that did not fix it either.

I closed a few tools down also but no luck.

    Thanks

    jodi

That sounds weird. I assume that you have selected a single table in the Table List before right-clicking?

You might have to reach out to our Tech Support so that they can set up a screen sharing session with you. Write to them at software.support@pb.com.
