I started work for a little company called Southbank Systems in April 1997, as a trainer and consultant for a product called Confirm. We were 30 people in an office – the CEO in a corner office upstairs, and only one layer of management between us, the coalface workers, and him.
Since then Confirm has moved from Southbank Systems to MapInfo, and then to Pitney Bowes, and I have tried my hand at Technical Authoring, Product Management, Software Support, Software QA and Marketing, as well as taking a break from Confirm altogether to live and work in Spain.
Now I’m back with Confirm, as a Principal Consultant, working on new, more efficient and cost-effective ways to deliver training. We are launching initiatives in live online learning, like a classroom, except we can all be sitting at home and interacting over the internet, and ‘Training on Demand’, learning delivered through a Learning Management System, offering training courses to the learner when and where they need them.
